So yesterday I awoke much earlier than normal to go on 6.5 mile run (don't mind if I do...) Running on a very slippy, muddy coastal path (not so much thanks...) to arrive at Chesil Beach. Definitely worth it though for watching the sunrise whilst running!

When back, had to chivvy the kids to get ready to head to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Prayed we could find a parking space - thankfully there was one. Had to deal with one kid walking too slow and the other walking too fast. The walk down to Durdle Door (for the kids to do the obligatory paddle in the sea and to see the Door) and back up was tough on my post-run legs, but also totally worth it. We then walked towards Lulworth. We heard the tanks firing on the range so walked up a wet grassy hill to see if we could see anything of the action (we couldn't). Turning round to come down, my daughter slips onto her back and swipes my feet out from under me and I face plant in front of a packed path of sightseers... Had a cuppa at the carpark before heading into Weymouth for the traditional walk about a seaside town, up to the fort, take a row boat ferry across the harbour, and go on a couple of fair ground rides.

Back to the holiday park to see a circus show, that we had missed by 2 hours - the old read '14:00' and think it's 4pm...'

Went to the arcade instead, played games (incl Port Royal and Banangrams) and waited FOREVER for fast food from the chippie (45 mins for just a portion of chips)... Early to bed after all that exercise...

That sounds like a fab day!

We've only been to Lulworth/Durdle Door once before. I was a really hot day in August and a very high tide so there was only a two-metre beach and no space for everyone to fit. Need to go back in the off season.

Poor you face planting in front of sightseers. 🤦‍♂️🤣

I started to do this, but began to feel very odd about sharing so much personal information to "the world". I give you, George, and the other commenters credit for your willingness to do so. I also found that the posts were so well done and detailed, that I felt I had to match the quality and was writing quite a long comment.

But you DID say it didn't have to be up to these standards so here's the Reader's Digest condensed version: My wife and I got up, packed a change of clothes and went to a funeral viewing to pay our respects to her family and (hopefully) share some nice memories. We then traveled in the car a few hours to where we moor our boat so we could remove the sails and canvas for the winter, and do some other winterization chores. That was followed by the three hour drive back home, which featured a less-than-stellar dinner stop. Finally, both did our daily Duolingo lessons and then watched the first episode of DCI Banks on BritBox before going to sleep.

I must admit that adding more detail would have made it more interesting. Plus, you included timing to the minute - is remembering that a blessing or an affliction?

Sounds like a busy and productive day, Keith. Nice amount of detail, although I am now curious about what you had for your less than stellar dinner stop.

For the timings for my 'yesterday', the waking up, and school drop offs and pick ups are the same every day. And I was able to work out when Kitty and I did our run from Strava, and the cat sick from my Whatsapp history. Maybe I should become a detective. 🤔

Love Kitty’s running! Great work Kits!! What’s your new DofE challenge or is running getting another whirl? Ludo’s swimming pool looks particularly delightful.

What Happened Yesterday for me looked a little like this - woke and read some of my book as it’s half term and I was making the most of a day off work .

I then headed downstairs, made my youngest bagels, apple and cheese for breakfast (he’s 13 and WELL able to do this himself!) then headed out for a short run. Made polite conversation with a farmer hedge cutting as he stopped for me to avoid twigs pinging off said hedge into my eyes (I’d assume this is why he stopped but also I am prone to odd injuries so also this was highly likely).

Raced back home to make a bowl of porridge (banana and cinnamon) for myself a day my husband and a cuppa and attended an online University of Bath Welcome lecture with my eldest son, before watching many YouTube campus and Bath city tours to replicate an ACTUAL open day. Highlight of Bath tour for me was watching my eldest sit through a summery of the Jane Austen Museum tour. Lowlight for him as above.

Folded 5 people’s epic piles of clean washing and had a shower before ‘attending’ an Accommodation talk followed by much YouTubing of Bath Uni accommodation then a subject specific talk in Mech Eng followed by YT lab and department tours!

After this I enjoyed far too many cheese toasties and set a child up with pumpkin carving before deciding despite my garden being a total tip and a building site to weed, clear leaves and generally winter ready part of it. My youngest came to help after carving his pumpkin and we merrily (me more than him) swept leaves, cleared moss and made the driveway and front garden and a bit of the front Spic and Span.

Lowlight of this was finding a massive toad who was sadly dead and trying to decide if it was death by wheely bin or cat. Highlight was the arrival of my parents with 2 extra pumpkins as I’d had a parenting fail and only managed to salvage 1 before all 3 offspring decided they were DESPERATE to carve pumpkins.

We showed the Grandparents around our build- scaling to the top to take pictures to show them as it was a bit precarious for them.

I then finished gardening, came in to hassle my middle son into preparing burgers for his DofE skills challenge. And lobbed a few treats in a bowl lit some pumpkins, had one set of Trick or Treaters, then realised I had to be taxi driver for my husband to his football training session as he’s had surgery and can’t drive/barely walk.

Blew out pumpkins after about 3 minutes and shouted Trick or Treat safety warnings to my sons - don’t harass homeowners/take only one sweet/don’t eat all OUR sweets before you go out. Then drove to the next village for footy.

Realised quickly that I would need to do the training set up as it’s hard to place cones whilst on crutches. Here ensued my eldest son disappearing instead of helping, my husband uttering some garbled instructions (I hate following instructions - maybe they were garbled a so just didn’t listen) on what I was to do before the team captain took pity on my cone laying abilities and took over. I then read my book and ate smuggled Trick or Treat sweets in my car before assisting in trainjng pack up and coming back home.

Next I cooked the burgers and made potato wedges which after a busy day we ate in the lounge watching Clarksons Farm whilst dozens of Halloween clothed teenage boys traipsed in and out of the house until about 9.30pm when my eldest son’s girlfriend came round and they then headed out for a village walk and to check out the Halloween decs.

At this point we watched more Clarkson (and wondered how we were SO late to the party) and I headed to bed, read more of my book and went to sleep.

Wow, that sounds exhausting! Well done.

What about the squirrel? You said it wasn't your bagel, but sounds too much of a coincidence that you had bagels for breakfast. I think one of the boys didn't like their breakfast and fed it to the wildlife.

Glad you've finally started watching Clarkson's Farm. So good!

Forgot about the squirrel!!! No bagel is left uneaten in our house so I’m bemused and confused about where it came from!!

I am still blown away that Kitty is 13 already!!! The beauty of having older kids at home is you and Rachel can go places without needing a sitter.

The husband and I are retired, so we play the part very well. My schedule usually includes laundry and running the dishwasher, after showering. The husband keeps up with the American election progress, and I exercise on my gazelle. I have to get some tv time in, and the husband usually putters in his shop and rides around on his four wheeler for awhile. We are dreadfully boring, and sometimes break up the schedule with a trip to the grocery store where we order our food online and have a personal shopper select the groceries for us.

However, it is nice not to have to report to our jobs anymore, and rather enjoy our life on our 13 acres, in our log cabin home.

Lori, you are far from boring! Living in a log cabin on 13 acres, a four wheeler, TV time, personal shopper, exercise machines... You're living the dream! ❤️

We think so. This is after 24 moves in almost 38 years of marriage, and a retired federal law enforcement officer and a retired homeschool teacher decided to finally put down some roots. Life is good, and we are very blessed!

I’ve never heard of cryptic clues and after watching the video, I know that’s another puzzle to avoid like Sudoku.

Ha, yes I felt like that too, but it is very satisfying when occasionally it does all make sense.

I loved reading about your day. I’d love to eat that much bread! I adore bread! I bought a special stoneware thing for baking bread from Aldi many months ago. I have the yeast and everything else including a simple recipe (no kneading) to make bread but still haven’t done it. I know I’ll binge on bread all day and end up gaining 20lbs from my bread addiction.

George Mahood's avatar

Bread addiction is a serious affliction. I think I might need to start going to Bread-eaters Anonymous.

You should definitely give your Aldi stoneware thing a go. You could always cut the loaf into pieces and freeze some of it? (much easier said than done!)

We were planning to go there a couple of years ago - then clocked it was a heatwave...

It was easy to write about that 'yesterday' as being on holiday = fun things to write about... The rest of the half term week has been:

Sit at my desk working for the whole day (a 'I'll just sit down for an hour' situation 🙃), and

Clear Out the Garage day.........

(Still aching from the face plant 😆)

Here goes…not very exciting 😆

What I did yesterday…

At the moment I am staying in Kent for the half term holiday (I live in SW France)

Yesterday I was staying in a Premier Inn with a friend from France who I had been to London with the day before. ( that would have been a more interesting day to have written about.!)

First, as always, I did the Wordle whilst laying in bed. I think I got it in three, but I have already forgotten what word it was. I also do a French one called Le Mot, I got that in three as well

We started the day off with a fry up in the pub next to the hotel. A good English breakfast is a real treat after living in France for 13years! We were joined by my daughter and grandson who live nearby

We then went to my daughter’s house and played Articulate and Gator golf with Harvey who is 7. Harvey and I did the daily games of Travle, Worldle and Globle on my phone (the boy loves a bit of geography)

Later Harvey took us for a walk around the town of Tonbridge. We visited the castle and we took some stale cornflakes to feed the pigeons. We attracted a flock of about 50 pigeons. There was a little toddler running around excitedly wanting to join in, his father was busy staring at his phone so I gave the toddler a couple of cornflakes to throw to the pigeons, but unfortunately, he decided to eat them instead! When I shouted “DON’T EAT THEM” the dad looked up. I explained that they were only cornflakes and hadn’t been touched by the pigeons and he managed to just hook them out of the boys mouth. Luckily he didn’t have a food allergy 😮

We then went to visit the local Paws Cat Café and had a drink and the obligatory piece of gooey cake. However, every time I tried to stroke a cat it walked off.

At 5:15 pm, we went for dinner at Havet , a Turkish restaurant. The food there is always excellent. My daughter once bumped into Anton du Beke there , who , after becoming quite merry with his friends , went over to her table so they could take a group photo. I didn’t spot any celebrities there yesterday though, however I am completely unobservant , so I could have been sitting at the table next to you George and probably wouldn’t have noticed (no offence meant)

In the evening, I accompanied my friend Barbara on the train back to another Premier Inn in Sevenoaks, as she had an early morning flight from Stansted Airport and she needed an early night. We did stop for a glass of cider in the bar before we went our separate ways.

So, basically lots of eating and drinking!

And pub fry up, Cat Cafe AND Turkish restaurant. What a day!

Brilliant, I love this one. But - is Tan really a DOG? Or a Shetland Pony? Tan is huge! It's really interesting to hear about your day George, and the weird things you eat (you forgot to mention the Haribo), we need Rachel's version as she is an author too. Xx

George Mahood's avatar

Ha, Tan does look very big in that photos. She actually quite a small border collie. The photo was taken from a low angle. She does, however, have the longest tongue in the world. It's quite freaky.

That day was a non-Haribo day. There was no room after all that toast.
