Oh what a lovely dog Tan is, adopting your family and pets! This is a heartwarming story. I'm sure Tan will be back to the old way of being with you very soon, the emotional scars of the rook scared run very deep. Well written George, I felt I was with you every step of your way on the walks PS Layla has such a gift for Art, she is surely destined to make a living from her wonderful drawings! Xx

We've just returned from a week's holiday and when we got home Tan took one look at me and went straight to her kennel. 😢

Reminds me of a friend's sheepdog who thinks it's name is Glam Ya C..t 😲 (for the same reason!)

Aw poor Tan. I hope she begins to trust you again. You must be so upset. Little baby steps and hopefully she will come round.

You make me want to get another dog. Mine died last year and I miss him.

This just breaks my heart! We have a Border Collie/Australian Shepard mix, and I could relate to every bit of this story. I was smiling so hard until the end... because I know how badly noises scare our girl too, and her intelligence is off the charts, along with an excellent memory. Collies cannot be distracted if something frightens them like some other breeds, and they will remember it for way too long. Yes, it will just take time until she feels safe again. And in the meantime, some extra treats wouldn't hurt either :)

Layla's portrait is absolutely gorgeous! She is very talented.

Thanks Jodi. She's determined not to forget. We are just back from a week's holiday and she still won't come for a walk with me. We'll get there.

I agree with Barbara - get Tan in the car and go to the beach so she can have good memories with you to replace the trauma.

That’s hilarious Tan preferred herding Moomin instead of sheep. The photo is also hilarious because you can see the disdain dripping from Moomin.

Layla’s art is so impressive! She’s so talented.

I think Moomin quite enjoys the attention. 🤣

So sad to hear. I hope Tan comes around but those scares run deep and last a long time. Your daughter's portrait of her is beautiful!

Cat lover says, “Having a dog like Tan is almost as nice as having no dog at all!”

I was TeamCat all my life and thought dogs were overrated. Having had a dog for six years I now totally understand the hype. Cats are great but dogs are a different level of greatness.

Poor Tan, she probably associates the noise with a gun.

It will take her time, but she will be back with Ludo and Rose in no time, and will continue to be an honorary member of the Mahood Family.

And Layla is truly a wonderful artist!!!!

Yes, I think she must associate it with a gun. But she also associates the gun with me.

Layla took her out for a walk yesterday without a problem. She still won't go with me. 😪

That is so sad! Perhaps you could drive her to the beach away from the fields and she could learn to associate you with fun filled days again. I hope she can recover soon from her trauma ❤️
